Egypt 2004
When we first went to Kenya, Dave and I tried scuba diving for the first time and enjoyed it immensely - so much so that when we got home I contacted a friend of mine, Pete Tussler, who is a dive nut, to book up an Open Water training course. Dave couldn't do the course as he was having problems with his ears at the time, but I went ahead and got my OWT certificate. Since then I've tried to go diving every time we go on holiday - from Kenya to Tenerife. When we had a chance for a last minute holiday in August I plumped for Egypt - no surprise that we ended up on the Red Sea, eh? The diving there is superb. No huge currents or swells, visibility of 20 metres plus, water temperature of 27 degrees C.
The Red Sea Waterworld watersports centre is well equipped and the dive masters and instructors are knowledgable and friendly. Even Dave decided he had to have another go and I am happy to announce he has also got his OWT certificate. Since I couldn't let myself be outdone, I went for (and completed) my Advanced Open Water Cert. I cannot think of anywhere more beautiful to train as a scuba diver and I must thank John my dive buddy for keeping my concentration on the diving rather than the fish!
Dave's group, led by instructor Simon, included Claire (Dave's buddy), Denise, Kevin and Becky. They all deserve a mention for being a good bunch of people to sit in the sun with after a days diving. For more pictures of them click here. I personally must hail Martie, my instructor, for lending me her wetsuit and allowing me to help with the Great Fish Trap Sabotage. Martie - the side cutters are on the way!
I have also had the chance to whizz off to Tunisia in the last couple of weeks (jeez, doesn't that sound Bohemian?!?!?). Click here for the report on diving Tunisian style. My next scuba posting will be after we come back from Thailand. Expect some more pictures then of the new friends we make!
